Reading the dial:
To read the dial, first line up the image of the sun produced by the sight with the analemma so that the sun image is bisected by the line of the analemma at the correct month. Next, note where the hour line (fig A in the diagram) falls within the hour section of the vernier (fig B in the diagram). This will give you the hour and minute to the nearest 5 min. interval. The next step is to look at the minute and seconds section of the vernier (fig C in the diagram) and ascertain which mark is nearest to alignment with the vernier marks on the dial; this will give the time to the nearest 20 second interval.
