The Aten II is our largest, and most accurate heliochronometer.
With a focal plane of 12" (300mm) and shadow sharpening, the penumbra effect is
no longer a barrier to accurate readings.
A vernier scale makes readings easy, and is divided into 20 second intervals.
The instrument is produced in naval brass. Latitudes between and including 15
to 65 deg. North or South are accommodated (Southern hemisphere models by special
order at this time). Weight of the instrument is 15Lbs. Diameter of the scale
is 15" and includes an adjustable friction dampner. The height varies between 14
and 20" depending on the latitude adjustment.
