The original Aten is our most popular heliochronometer. Clean, uncluttered, design
coupled with the highest quality materials and precision machining produce an instrument
that is beautiful in its own right, these instruments compete in
price with purely decorative sundials, yet have the features of a true heliochronometer!
With a focal plane of 5.86" (150mm) and shadow sharpening, the penumbra effect is
no longer a barrier to accurate readings.
The newest models of the Aten not only have an improved vernier system as well as a larger analemma, but improved 'feel' and balance also.
Due to an improvement in manufacturing technique the newest models have an improved surface finish resulting in less deburring and finishing time for a reduction in cost.
The instrument is available in naval brass only. Latitudes between and including 20
to 65 deg. North are accommodated. Weight of the instrument is 10Lbs.
Diameter of the scale is 9.5" and includes an adjustable friction dampner. The height
varies between 9 and 13" depending on the latitude adjustment.
